SOCIAL NEWS

PRIZE-GIVING 2015

This was held, as usual, in the adults bar on Saturday, November 14th, with welcome drinks!
However, the attendance was very poor this time which was probably due to the winds of 50 knots and plus which had kept people at home all day! The Racing was cancelled so anyone who was at the Club also went home. We gather the only sailor to launch his Solo today was Ian Swann, the latest arrival in the fleet. Capsized 6 times before managing to get home!

Nick Rawlings with some of his Trophies and Sarah Mitchel collecting her Ladies prize, assisted by daughter Holly who subsequently decided that Nick was the man to know and managed to embroil him him conversion for rather a long time afterwards!
David showing off the Most Active Fleet Cup, won again by the Solo Fleet, and Cliff Wiles with the Class Captains Trophy for being the most helpful and longest serving member of the Fleet.
In fact, Cliff actually presented this trophy to the fleet many years ago!

PENFOLD’S GARDEN PARTY
Saturday, July 18th

Just over twenty solos arrived and momentarily enjoyed the view of the Mud until it started to rain. At this stage they were joined by two local couples from the Social Sailing Fleet who had also been at Dell Quay for the Dash. Observed the chickens which are now five in number but totally all replaced. Back in the house we were seated in the newly built South side of the house - much admired- and also now joined by the Catchpoles who, now unable to drive, had been brought by the Gadds - we were glad to see them.
Usual good supply of main course and yummy puds and coffee served by Rob Hack who is now recovered from his poorly toe. One of the Social Sailing members acted as an excellent wine waiter and a good time was had by all.
Very many thanks to Sheila and Anthony for their hospitality-   we all felt a bit guilty with Sheila’s refusal of any help in the clearing up - hope Anthony was good at it as well

WILES GARDEN PARTY
on Saturday, June 20th

Again we had a pleasant, mellow evening with about 20 folk arriving to admire Shirley's roses - in the garden and with more in arrangements on the tables. It was a much warmer evening than for the previous event in May. The promised rain did not materialise - and neither did the usual plague of mozzies.  Besides the roses, the new pool - liner replaced and all landscaped -  was very much admired and then we all sat down to the usual sumptuous feast.

Towards 10 pm Fiona - accompanied by guest, Bob, this evening- stood and thanked Shirley and Cliff for their hospitality and we all departed leaving the expected amount of clearing up to be done!

BLAYDES GARDEN PARTY
 Saturday, May 30th

Another Elegant Evening enjoyed by the Solos in the quiet environs of a private garden.
About 20 people arrived in good order carrying platters of their own making for main course and dessert, and the kitchen surfaces were soon covered with a surfeit of  luscious food.

Firstly however, there were drinks on the patio by the pond with nibbles provided by the hosts.
Lots of serious Solo chat here!

Then there was an obligatory chance to wander around the colourful garden; clematis, azaleas and aquilegia being the main plants in flower at the moment but with other colourful-leaved and shaped shrubs.
However, coats were the order of the day as it was rather cloudy and unseasonably cold - but, thankfully, not actually raining!
So, it was not long before everyone wandered back inside to fill their plates and find a place to sit  on a pleasantly laid table - all with arrangements of aquilegias as a centerpiece.

Part of Blaydes Bistro before and then during the evening

Lots of drinking and chatting until Fiona stood to thank the hosts and people eventually departed homewards

Saturday, April 11th

This was training day for the keen Soloists with Ross Harvey in charge. Fiona invited any partners to come for a walk and then tea. Tea at the Club was deemed too expensive so five ladies and two gents (too windy to sail ) enjoyed a walk along the front to Piperelli’s for icecream

Saturday, March 28th

Fiona started off the Social Season with a visit to a local pub in Havant - The Wheelwrights Arms

This pub has recently reopened after a long closure and it seemed to be doing really well. The menu was quite unusual and the service very good.
All ten of us, including Fiona’s Mum, had a really good evening
